Well, I didn't really have much to do today, so I decided I wanted to build (or buy) a copy stand. I was Googling "build a copy stand" when I saw my desk lamp with an adjustable bendy arm. I then remembered my old broken lamp and I realized it would make a GREAT copy stand. It took me all of 30 minutes (including the trip to ACE) to build this copy stand, at a total cost of 13 cents, for the bolt that screws in to the camera =) All I needed to do was take off the lamp and cut the wires out, change the springs (which were too weak to hold up the camera) with some rubber bands, and put that screw in the old lamp assembly. Not bad! Here are a couple of pictures of a Morgan that I took with the new stand.

And here are pictures of the stand itself, and the leftovers :p

I LIKE that idea. When I get time I think I will rig one up for myself.

    Thanks for sharing.

Just don't turn on the stove while you're using it!

Amazing pictures. What kind of camera and lens are you using?
    (Nice coin, too)

Camera AND lens? Please. I'm using a Sony Cybershot with 15X zoom. Nice camera, but NOT expensive =)

    That's important information.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel with a 135mm zoom which gives me more like a 3X zoom.
I think it's the high-powered zoom that makes the difference.

How do you keep the natural wobble/sway of the lamp from affecting the camera? Do you use a trigger cable or time delay or ???

I use a 10 second time delay. I would use 5, but my camera only has 2 or 10 seconds. So 10 it is.

I like the pics, but i think they are bit too bright. You might wanna turn down the exposure on your camera a bit.

I agree that they are a bit overexposed...I will be experimenting with some different backgrounds later...

Same suggestion. Also, drop the sizes a bit. Just a little on the large size. I like your ideas. Now I wonder how that makes those that go out and spend tons of money on stands, lighting arays, special tables, etc., etc.

Nice set-up. And for 13 cents - cool. That first coin you posted was certainly nice. The rest looked a little bright to me, but I could tell there were some really nice coins in the bunch!
