    @panzerman Try looking for auctions
    on NumisBids. They usually have a few
    more auctions listed and sooner.

    Thanks....but I better stay away from auctions till Triton XXII:stop: I do not want to go into debt like our government. I am trying my best to sell some more bugs, so I can get at least 2 lots from the Roman Provincials, with my rather bad luck/ they probably will go way to high for my budget. When my banknote collection sells with Heritage Auctions, that will free up a whack of dough for some really NICE material. But, I have to wait until April Signature/ Ancients/ World Sale:( Its nice to be unemployed, but I rather be out cutting grass/ hedges....making $$$$ again....for COINS.

    Thanks, the coins from Parma are my fav. Had the Spanish Armada succeeded in 1588, Alessandro Farnese Duke of Piacenza would have commanded the Spanish land armies set to invade England. At that time the Spanish Army/ Duke where a one/ two punch. Best Field Commander, leading invinciable (Spanish) army. But, Philip II was not the most capable King.

    The Italian States/ Genoa/ Naples etc used many different monetary units. Everyone knows about the "Merchant of Venice" Shylocks lends Bassanio 3000 AV Dukats. Shakespear had it wrong....it would have been Zecchini. Back to the AV Doppia=2Dukats=2,AVScudi.
    Genoa struck 25 Doppie gold coins that weighed 175g.=50 Dukaten, nice chunk of change:happy: This is another AV 2 Doppie 1626 Parma Mint/ Duke Odonardo Farnese of Piacenza. Got that one from Asto Bolaffi Auction/ 6 yrs ago. 8ff93357fe33167bbf36fd93eae2c6c6.jpg

    If I were picking one of these for my own collection, it would be a tossup between the Galla Placidia and the Visigothic. Hmm.... Placidia, I think. They're not getting much love here, perhaps you should get rid of them? ;)

    Is this a CT nickname that will stick? I like it. :) (Except Smaug was famously lazy, he definitely would not have been into doing superhuman amounts of yard work to earn his treasure. Perhaps "Young Smaug"?)

    Thanks all for really nice comments. Before this thread, I had NEVER heard of Smaugo_O But, now that I found out that he was a Dragon....I really like that nickname. I always was fascinated by the dragons in Grimm's Fairy Tale book when I was a toddler. Truth be known, that is where I picked up my craving for gold coins. Grimm had a lot of themes with the "Devil", "Dragons", gold coins, robbers, witches....all that neat stuff. There are still dragons on Komodo today. Here are some of my dragon coins:happy:

    AV Quarter Dukat ND struck 1720 Basel Mint/ Basel
    AV Dukat 1606 Clausenberg Mint
    Stephan Boskai Prince of Transylvania

    I do like the coins. My favorite is the Bavarian gold minted during the Thirty Years War. I don't collect those coins but I do like them. I also like the name "Panzerman" I used to drive a tank back in my younger days.

    Thanks! The Bavarian coin is really nice to look at, they must have had a great mintmaster in Munich back in 1640!
    About nickname, I always idolized my Uncle who was a KingTiger commander in last two months of War, he got drafted into the 11thSS Nordland division in Feb.45. By April he scored over 70 Soviet tanks, mostly Josef Stalin 2s. Only family member that got the Knight's Cross.:) He can thank Ferdinand Porsche for designing the Tigers, they where the best tanks in WW2, also kept their crews alive, best gun/ armor protection. There where only 1553 Tigers built, half where blown up when outa fuel/ bogged down. Still they accounted for 50K enemy tanks knocked out. A Tiger could score a Sherman at 3000 meters. I am myself a lowly lawn guy, not very romantic.. The Stihl leafblower is my "Little Tiger" fbf5ac8c44819a158a67d6ffc5578916.jpg Stihl-BR-700-action.jpg
