I am not that keen on the Daric, even though i like the Persians and had wished Darius III had me as his military advisor. I would have had 50K bowmen and just annilihilated Alexander's Macedonian phalanx formations. No need for chariots, just calvary to finish the job.
May I suggest that the underappreciated Daric would make a wonderful Christmas/Saturnilia gift for one of us that would make it #1 on our list. Let me campaign for this by pointing out we got 14" of snow Sunday and I hired a professional plow to do my driveway for the first time ever. Today, I can drive all the way to the end of my drive with complete ease but the street beyond that will be waiting for its turn on the state highway list. There is a disadvantage to living at the end of a cul-du-sac off of another cul-du-sac off of a minor road...... Coin content: I can not think of an ancient coin that shows weather of any kind. We have thunderbolts and Miracle of the Rain related coins but no images of rain, snow, hail or even earthquakes, tornados or tidal waves. Have I missed any?
I was wondering how you made out with the storm. Hopefully not a harbinger of what is to come! Perhaps an appropriate coin for you today is a Vesta, she of hearth and home. Stay close to her warming flame.
I feel bad for you, you sure got a monster of a snowstorm. We here had our first snowfall on November 8th, and it never melted. So, that put an end to my adventures in blowing leaves/ lots of my clients never got a Fall cleanup....crazy weather. Here is one of my weather/ God related coins. AV Dukat 1649 Regensburg Mint Issued for peace of Westphalia (ending the Thirty Years War) Imperial City of Regensburg Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III 1637-58 Scene depicts rain event/ Noah's Ark/ Great Flood
Ditto We probably don't live by the sames standards John, I guess they would probably make my top ten any of the last twenty years Q
we are getting light snow today, but only 2 -3 cm. Best of all, I do not have to clear clients driveways, its below the 5 cm./ 2" limit
We have had years with under 2" total for the year and already have an above average season from this one storm. The advantage we have is that it will all be gone by Saturday. I had not thought about Noah's Ark as weather but it is a flood. Thanks for showing it. There is an ancient I'll never have showing Noah's Ark but it is not as high art as your modern coin. https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/religion/noah-ark-commemorated-on-roman-coins/
This coin is not mine, I actually looked up to find better weather related coin. Here is the reverse of a Frankfurt AV 2 Dukaten "stormdukat" you can see lightening/ clouds/ rain! I think I will put that on my wishlist/ neat coin.
