Ok i know this coin potentially worth a few bucks. I have a hard time grading world coins. Could you guys give me an opinion on grade. i like it its nice. Also do you think an acetone bath is a good idea or no?
I agree with Steve : XF , maybe even getting close to AU. The wear seems to be confined to mostly the high points. I've seen a lot of these and own a few and I've never seen so much detail in the hair and beard. Also the lion is usually worn flat but yours has some detail left such as the line separating the legs and you can see the lines separating the fingers on the hand holding the axe and also some toe lines on the back leg. The crown on top has some great detail left. Now, with that said, I buy coins only for the silver content, not the numismatic value, which is why none of my 50 Ore coins look this good. BTW, this coin has $1.42 worth of silver in it at the current spot price. Perhaps it would grade XF 45 with AU details. That's my guess and I am NOT a professional grader. Please don't quote me. Only a Professional Grader can give you an opinion that will translate into real value.
Norway, 1899, 50 Ore, KM#356, .600 silver. mintage-200,000 my 2004 world coin catalog values this coin at... grade/value XF-$85.00 next grade is BU-$300.00 I am sure the value has gone higher in a current World coin catalog I just do not not know what that value is now.
NGC has it in XF40 at $150.00. Personally, I can't imagine why anyone would pay catalog prices for any coin. Negotiation is where the fun is.
The coin looks like a benchmark 1+ in the Scandinavian grading system, which translates to XF. I agree with the last speaker about the value
