Anyone, I have some old coin collections that my Grand parents gave me. They are pre-framed US coin collecitons honoring the presidents on the coins. They each came with a description of the president and their accomplishments and then there are multiple coins in each frame. They have titles such as 'The Kennedy Era', and 'The Washinton Years'. The frames are dated 1975 so all of the coins are before 1975 and I have a frame/collection for each of our US coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, 1/2 dollar, dollar). In the lower right corner of the print in which the coins are adhered is the date 1975 and the letter H with kind of a circle around it. Can anyone tell me where these came from. They all came from the same manufacturer of the prints and they look to be some sort of a special order collection that some company may have offered back in 1975. I have tried to Google them and was unsuccessful. In all each frame consists of about 8 to 12 coins per frame. Any advice?
You only need to post your question once (not 5 times). I don't know what it is you have. Can you post a pic?
I am at work now but will upload some pix tomorrow. Any clue? Each frame is about an 8x10 size black frame.
The one thing that is for sure is that you don't have "coins". Coins are money, intended to circulate as such, and issued by a government. What you have are tokens/medallions issued by some private enterprise for sale to collectors, or as "prizes" in cereal boxes, etc.
briankbax It sounds like a framed set of circulating coins. These items were sold by Sears (among others) years ago. The problem is that many (most) of the coins are well polished. I saw a few sets years ago, including Indian/Buffalo nickels nicely framed and polished to death. I didn't have the heart to tell the owner that the coins were junk.
They ARE coins, they are not from the Franklin Mint (The FM had higher standards than that.) and the bst thing that can probably be said about them is that they came from your Grandparents. Cherish them for that as that is the highest value these things will have. As Treashunt said these things are typically very common coins that have been polished to death. About the only value they have over face is if you happen to have a set that has some silver coins in it, then they are worth their melt value.
