What do you cointalkers think of this ebay auction? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120214639471&_trksid=p2761.l1259
I don't know enough about the coin to comment on it. However, he has as good a return policy as I have seen on eBay. Also, that may be the best feedback I have ever seen on eBay.
I agree, the coin is well struck, but I am not 100% convinced its a proof. I would not shell out the money for a raw example.
Thats some amazing feedback to say the least !!! With him being able to provide decent close-ups/macro pics, I would ask for pics of "GOD" " WE " and "TRUST", both obverse dies have polish thru WE, and die #1 and #2 are distinguished by polish and gouges thru TRUST and GOD. The die line that they are showing under M in UNUM is also on some business strikes. I have heard of no neck/chin line on the 1910 MPL. Either way, 100% return and such excellent feedback may be worth it, if you want an impaired proof, it just might be......worse case scenario, you tie up some $$$ for a while
That is one heck of a nice 1910, but I'm not sure if it is a matte or not. We'll have to wait and see I guess. Phoenix
what do you have to lose for $10 opening. But, it does look like a circ. proof to me. But I have been known to be wrong before.
How many lottery tickets do you buy a week ? No, I'm not being a wise guy, I'm being serious. I ask that question because that is in effect what you are doing by bidding on such auctions. If you can't positively identify the coin as being what it is purported to be - then don't even consider bidding. All you are doing by bidding is taking a gamble - and most people lose when they gamble, just like with lottery tickets. If you want a Matte Proof Lincoln, buy one already slabbed and certified as such.
I`m right there with GD on this one.... Seller has no return policy to back up his perhaps legitimate observation on this coin...
Tom, I don't believe that it is a Matte Proof! Although the rims are square, the depth and boldness of the Strike does not appear deep and strong enough and since the Dies for the Business Strike Cents and the Proof Cents both were made using the same damaged Master Die, many 1910-P "Business Strike" Cents have the same diagnostic Die Scratch as the Proofs. I have copied and pasted the links provided by Leadfoot when I asked abouth the diagnostics for both the 1909-P VDB and 1910-P Proof Cents. Warning: The pictures take a very long time to load. 1910 MPL: http://forums.collectors.com/message...keyword2=matte 1909 VDB MPL: http://forums.collectors.com/message...keyword2=matte Frank
I would bet that coin is not a Matte Proof, and while I might be incorrect, those who take the other side of the action are fighting long odds.
Yeah...agreed. I would rather have a nice bus strike UNC than any impaired proof, which this probably isnt. There have been a rash of them on the bay.....all " possible " MP's, none are, they are just super hot right now, best way to get good cash is to say MP????
Hobo, Yes, it appears that the server that hosts the smaller pics is probably down right now! However, if you wait long enough, a MEGA sized picture will eventually begin to load. As the warning states, it will take a very long for the picture to load unless you have a very fast Internet connection. Frank
Frank, I clicked on them, and got this message: For some reason they aren't going through at all for me. Phoenix
Try these new links which I copied from the Collectors Forum website: 1910-P Matte Proof: http://forums.collectors.com/messag...&highlight_key=y&keyword1=1910&keyword2=matte 1909-P VDB Matte Proof: http://forums.collectors.com/messag...&highlight_key=y&keyword1=1909&keyword2=matte Frank
I do not know enough to say tht is a prood in the auction. However, the 2 die scratches he points out are either identical to the proof in the forum or someone knew exactly where to put them. i.e. put scratches on the coin. They look perfectly placed to me.
