The reason that I posted the Ike is because it later straight graded at Anacs. I personally thought it was MA, but the crowd has spoken... Summary of results: ----------------------- Coin 1 - Monroe Silv Commem (pg.1) - 1 (NT/MA) vs 5 (AT/QC) Coin 2 - Silv Ike (pg.1) - 2 (NT/MA) vs 5 (AT/QC) ----------------------- NT/MA (holder is wrong): 0 total AT/QC (holder is right): 2 total ----------------------- Points: -----------------------
This coin has obviously been cleaned. I dont blame someone for trying to hide a cleaning lol Thats a rare bird in UNC
My first take is also cleaned. I'm not sure why it got the QC. I'd lean towards MA for color but still details for the grade....I'm not sure how I would treat that in this thread.
What is questionable about the color on the 1901? It may have other problems, but I don't think the color is the primary detriment.
The off look is the reason for the color. I don't see enough details to say what it was but I agree with the details holder.
A friend of mine bought the 1901 Morgan in the hopes of getting a straight grade after cracking it out and resubmitting to NGC. NGC also graded it QC Unc Details. He again cracked it out and used one of the coin cleaning dips and removed the "toning". It was resubmitted again to NGC, but this time it came back as Reverse Improperly Cleaned AU Details. He lost on this deal. This is my friend that back in the 70's and 80's, when common date Unc. Morgans were cheap ($10 to $12 each), would buy several each month and then use silver polish to make them bright and shinny. When ask why, he said they were his coins and he wasn't going to sell them.
AT on the Peace Dollar ....it looks interesting and is by no means the common ugly AT often seen, but AT it still is.
