Looks like normal brown early copper coins to me.

It looks as if there is too much light being used and the white balance is not set right. He has some nice cents.

I looked at about 10 items.
They all seemed to have the same color to them.
With that many copper coins AND that spread of years and types, I'd have expected quite a range in colors.
And I'd have expected some of the better ones to be slabbed.

I personally would have passed on them.

  6. Appears to just be very crappy photography on his part.

I think he's selling a lot of cleaned coins and/or the imaging is making them appear that way.

Regardless......nice coins. My impression, not slabbed, so must be a part of a very old collection. Every one is selling also, did ya see that?

I am interested in your opinions as i was considering buying from this seller. He has some very nice large cents!

In the end, you have to be happy with the coin and the price you paid. I an not against purchasing cleaned coins as long as the price is right and you are happy with what you are getting. Cleaned coins have their place in the marketplace. We know that alot of late 18th century and 19th century type was cleaned. We know that certain series like Bust halves and Barbers are notorious for being cleaned and have retoned.
A cleaned coin ( if it is cleaned, we have not determined that yet from this seller, could just be bad photography).
If the seller has a good return policy and you like the coins, go for it. I go for eye appeal first. What do you guys think?

The coins I looked at apear to have great detail and he has a 30 return policy. I would email him and ask about them to see if you can get his opinion on cleaning or coating.

ROFL - That is a good one! Sometimes the jokes are just great on this board.

As for this seller - I think some of the coins have been recolored. It could be the photography, but I do not think so. He does have a good return policy, but it does not mention shipping. I hesitate to rent coins so I can see what they look like in hand. I have not really seen one that I would like to take a chance on. Who knows maybe some one should buy one, take a good picture and post both the auction pictures and the new pictures. For now I will pass, but I do watch his auctions - he might have something I want eventually.

Thank you Vipergts, Thank you Bustcoinagedude for your advice. That is good.
i actually did e-mail him for better pictures and shipping policy. Got satisfaction on both. Didn't ask him about cleaning though. I basically look at the sellers positive rating of 99.8%. Seems pretty good. He is also one of the few sellers who regularly offers the kind of early cents which interest me. We'll see. He has some 1796 DB's which i still miss in my collection.
I wonder if anybody here has some actual buying experience with him? would be interested to hear what they have to say.
    Thanks,
    Eduard

The seller might be knowingly offering cleaned coins, or he might be doing so unknowingly. Either way, I wouldn't recommend asking HIS opinion.

There is a strong chance that the answer will be uninformed or from someone who does know better, yet chooses to sell such coins without disclosing their problems. Don't ask a question if you can't trust the source for the answer.;)
