Speaking of Canadian commemoratives...

Canada: gold 100-dollars proof of Elizabeth II, Canadian Unity commemorative, 1978





Obverse: younger draped bust of Elizabeth II right.
Reverse: twelve Canada geese flying right, representing the ten Canadian provinces and two territories of the time.

If they struck a coin like this today, they'd have to add a thirteenth goose for the territory of Nunavut, which was separated from the Northwest Territories in 1999.

(I've posted this one here before under a different theme, but since my collection is relatively small, there do end up being some repeats.)

 

In light of that last, why don't we change the theme to birds in flight.

 

Birds in flight (and SLQs), continued.

 

More flying birds here (and bonus points since they aren't eagles), but they're kind of tiny:

Another love token (dime) with more teeny-tiny carved birds flying, if you look closely enough.

 

Used to have a complete set of these, but no pix remain, so I had to borrow one. Since I seem to be out of flying birds now, let's do Ireland for a little while.
