Everything I see says it is real. What is it worth?

RLM, I have a 1921D Walking Half that had been scratched. Ive been trying to get rid of it for a few years now. I list it on ebay every so often as buy it now or make an offer. And I havent even had any offers, ever. So thats a tough call. I know I didnt think I would have such a hard time getting rid of my 1921D, after all it is in nice shape, and Im not really looking for that high of an offer, but I still have it and I think I always will.
Besides, doesnt this S VDB look like a very fine with an old cleaning???

A whole heck of a lot less than it would be without the vandalism!

to tell you the truth, i personally think it is worth somewhere around 500 dollars. Besides the vandalism, it isnt that bad of an example of an 09 S VDB. If you can find the right person who just wants to fill that hole in their book, this coin might be the perfect coin for them.

Whoever did this should be made to look at the difference in value between the scratched and unscratched versions. I hope they had fun doing it.

IMHO scratched coins are not worthy to be put in a collection

I'd pass, no demand really for damaged coins. IMHO.

Some scratches are worse than others, and unfortunately, those are quite distracting. I don't mind coins with handling marks or scratches, but intentional markings really detract from the desirability, in my opinion. If I was considering buying it, it would have to go for a fraction of book since I know that every time I show someone the coin we would be talking about the damage and not the rare coin.
How do you feel about the marks? Mike

For whatever it's worth, coins marked like that are often marked purposely because they are fakes. Not saying that one is - just saying that it is often true.

I think I asked the wrong question - so, of course, I got the wrong answer. What would your answer have been if I had asked which of the 3 coins (2 here and the original post) would you prefer? Now that it is too late, I know what my answer would be. Tell me what yours is.

I'd go with the VG-8, seems like a nice problem free example. Or maybe the corroded one, for my VF/XF set till I got one that isn't corroded. Not sure. But I don't think I would pay much for the scratched one, too detracting IMHO.

    I would prefer 1 original VG-8 over 2 problems.....
