When it's gone is it really gone?

Well I was in for a surprise, a pleasant surprise last night. I am having an 'old friend' come home. I won a coin last night and went to the CNG archives to get more information on the type. When I came across a coin very much like the one I am getting it looked very familiar. I decided to check my former collection and lo and behold it was the same coin. I had purchased it the first time from CNG in 2006. Some collectors may not want a coin that they sold back in their collection but I'm welcoming it back to the family. Who says you can't go back? ;-)

Here's the CNG image from 2006:

That's really cool. I'd love to get a Phillip I Saeculares Augustus sestertius type that I sold 20 years ago back.

I understand. I couldn't believe it when I saw that it was the same coin. I felt like it was meant to be. Thanks ancient coin hunter.

I have never seen, let alone recovered, a coin from the 150 I sold (regretfully) in 1974. Congratulations.

This was part of over 370 coins I sold through Heritage. It's still hard to believe I found one of my babies. :) Wouldn't it be fascinating to be able to follow a coin from minting in Ancient Rome through today. I'm sure there would be a lot of darkness while it was in the ground. Thanks Doug.

Unfortunately, that is not my coin. I do have a Caligula 3 Sisters but not as nice as that one. Here's mine:

I also will consign my banknote collection with Heritage. I have 250 US/Canada obsolete/chartered notes/ all are UNC or better. I am hopeing to get around $60K US.....which I will use to bid on more nice Ancients/medieval/renaissance/baroque era AV coins. I think its better to just collect coinage.

Wow! $60K. I hope you realize that amount. It's funny but when I consigned my ancient collection I also consigned some Confederate currency I had since the early 80's. One of the notes, a $1 note with a Galveston interest stamp fetched $3000, more than any single ancient sold for. And I paid about $35 from the dealer for the note through mail order. I just didn't know what I had! Good luck on your consignment John.

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

Here is one I let go about 20 years ago, I wished I had not. I can no longer afford such coins, but I was surprised to see it come back to the market earlier this year at the Gemini auction:

It's kind of a strange feeling don't you think Ken? When I saw my former coin it kinda felt like 'deja vu'. Like I said earlier, I guess it was just meant to be. By the way, I'm sure some of the coins I sold, I had bought from you. I wish I had those back too. :)

I have 15 aurei, and I would swear on a bible.....I will NEVER let go any of them:) That Tauler&Fau Auction today had a FDC Galerius aureus that went cheap, wish I would have had 14K to add it. But ten years ago, I would have never contemplated selling my beautifull butterfly/moth collection:( And alas now my banknotes:( too. Now, I know why, "coin collecting" was called the hobby of kings. You can spend a fortune on a collection.
