For someone who doesn't like drama, they sure like it on here. if anyone is a drama queen, its you 3.(@Alegandron,RYRON/PianoSteve)

I could name ALOT more - but I wont. Most prob already know who you are.

"OH OH! I don't like him anymore- im putting him on IGNORE!"

Its guys like you are the reason why people don't like to join this board anymore. There are other boards I am on and I have been and this is the ONLY ONE filled with primadonnas. Its no wonder that those guys all post scat photos. I guess many of you have a way of getting under peoples skin and in not a good way.You think you are better than everyone else and its a real turn off.

Grow up will ya. its an ancient coin forum. we can discuss what we like about the coins. One of the main reasons to be on here is to discuss forgeries, sellers, and coins in general

And I am not the only one . I couldn't care less if you put me on ignore. Go ahead. I will do the same then.

BTW The mod backed me up when I accused most of you of this months ago. after you blatantly attacked me for no reason I really was hoping you would grow up after this, but I guess I was very mistaken.People don't change.

Keep it up guys, and you will end up with a dying forum . People don't like constant arguing on forums. Please. Keep it up.

I wont be surprised if I wake up tomorrow banned from this board. after so many primadonna regulars probably all reported my posts for no reason .

Its like grade school here sometimes. And ya know what? I am not even sure I would give a crap if that happened. If this is how you treat innocent people, I wouldn't want to stay anyway

Im sure their goal is to have all the regulars shun and put anyone who doesnt conform to their ideals pretty soon there is going to be 12 people on this board all talking to themselves and ignoring the rest.

let this be a lesson to the non regulars- If this could happen to me, it could happen to anyone. It could happen to YOU, next, if you don't do whatever the regulars say. Theres a word for this - CLIQUE. And it has a negative connotation . I bet the regulars on here pass around a list of people to add to an ignore list. LOL I used to remember this on AOL Chat rooms( before they were all abandoned over the constant hate and drama)

Im not an expert either- hence my name its just the huge amount of forgeries out there I just wanted him to make sure before its too late. I heard from an coin expert friend( not on here) that if China can make Morgan US Dollars, with real silver as we speak, and the only way to know for sure if its fake is use an XRF analyzer( no guarantee there) , and detect all the impurities to see if it was American made( on US SOIL), then anything is possible! That link I posted shows tons of forgeries worldwide.

hurry up with the ignore list/reporting and banning (@Alegandron,RYRON/PianoSteve) before others read my post. You don't want anyone on here to have any independent thought. Perish the thought!

I hope so..Hope it was a good deal too. Those pressed fakes look phenomenal now I just was asking. I wouldn't want anyone to get those unless they are absolutely 100% certain that its probably genuine LOL

Very nice owl; a type I still have yet to spring for! (Although my middling bids at auction are slowly getting higher and higher!)

My first impression actually was that this was an imitation, perhaps from the near east or Levant/Arabia.

For those better versed - are there any handy guides on how to tell the difference? I know Egyptians minted them at ~14g to match the local weight standard, and both Himyar and Bactrian imitations have a very distinct style.

I was thinking something similar Finn!which is why I merely asked if Aussie was positive its real...however some big shots on here took offense to my question

Thanks for all the responses and interest guys. Fantastic to see such passion - this is why I love this forum.

I can't post much now (as I'm at work), but to clarify - no one is going to be banned for questioning authenticity. It does not breach the forum rules.

Thanks dougsmit, always great to get your knowledgeable views.

I asked you directly, but may as well include the question here for good measure so everyone can see - you use fairly qualified statements like "There is nothing wrong with the style of this coin" and "I see many good points in the coin as a representative of what it is" - is there also a red flag? Or are these statements more representative of the declining quality of these Tetradrachms in the period struck?

    Thanks mate! :D

Absolutely agree, no tests cuts. As you say, all well and good for the ancients of the day to do it, but for me to do it? Not on your life.

As mentioned, I'll do my standard SG test, which will tell me whether it's fine silver or not (or at least whether it has the SG of fine silver), which will rule out fourrees at the very least.

beginner345, as mentioned above, you have not breached the rules with this post (or any other in this thread), and you're entitled to offer your view. One thing I'll say (in relation to the quote above) is that CoinTalk never stifles discussion and arguments. If you have a different view, new members, old members, whatever - it's all fine. You're free to express your view, as long as you don't breach the forum rules.

Thanks Deacon Ray, and thanks for sharing yours! Of course it counts, it's an Owl! ;)

Interesting. I assume it's not, but I'm relatively new to ancients as well, and don't have the depth required to make such an observation. I defer to the more knowledgeable members of CoinTalk

    Excellent, thank you!

In all honesty @Beginner345 someone makes a post and your first comment is "is it real" followed by a page of fakes and then a suggestion to "make a test cut". A joke, how would anyone know? At least use a smiley

This is exactly the point. You can not expect a fine style owl of the 5th century to be matched by a coin struck even just after Sparta defeated Athens let alone a century later. Specialists separate the various changes into time periods but those of us who are not all that into owls need at least to be aware that a coin of Athens of the late 4th century looks nothing like one from the finest period mid 5th century and this has nothing to do with anything being a fake. It is more like US Morgan dollars look nothing like Bust type dollars.

Many of us have said but few beginners believe: You will enjoy the hobby more if you stop worrying about fakes and only buy coins from people who are BOTH honest and knowledgeable enough to sell you good coins. After you have done this a while, you may start to feel like you can go out on your own and decide for yourself but you will make mistakes. Everyone does. After you have handled 10,000 owls (otherwise known as 'last month' to some pros?) you may develop a feel that will not be had by people who have looked at 100 photos on Coin Talk.
