I need help identifying this coin. Any info on value, desirability or background is appreciated. Cheers. 20181128_000724.jpg 20181128_000741.jpg

    bsting Never enough coins.lol

Did a google search on the lettering around the rim of the coin and found some history on it. That site also had similar coins linked to eBay that showed a starting bid of .99 and they had more detail, so probably not much value. But I am just starting to get into coins so I could be way off.lol

No, it's not a 2-pfennig, because those were copper. It's a 5-pfennig piece, struck in copper-nickel (note the whiter color). They also struck 10-pfennig pieces in the same composition, but those were closer to the diameter of a US nickel.

The "D" mintmark is for Munich.

The 1876-D 5-pfennig is a very common coin and would be worth $1.00 in Fine. This one does not even approach that grade, however, and as such, it's worth only a few cents numismatically, but to someone interested, maybe about a quarter to fifty cents simply by virtue of it being from the 1800s.

These are very common bulk bag finds for me. I could have made pretty good progress towards a date and mintmark set of them by now if I had been trying.
