I just received my most recent ebay win (gamble?) and I'm very happy. Another bargain at $60 that helps lessen the losses of the fakes that I carelessly got. Here it is: Ruler: Antoninus Pius (Augustus) Coin: VF Brass Sestertius ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XXII - Laureate head right VOTA SVSCEPTA DEC III, COS IIII in ex, - Antoninus Pius, standing left, sacrificing with patera over tripod, left arm at side Exergue: Mint: Rome (158-159 AD) Wt./Size/Axis: 25.09g / 31mm / 12h References: RIC 1010 Cohen 1124 BMC 2068 Sear 4262 Acquisition/Sale: mtmstores Ebay $0.00 11/18 Notes: Nov 8, 18 - The Gary R. Wilson Collection In the 'olden days' when I would receive an ebay purchase I would just open the package and admire the coin. Now only a couple of years later, I hold my breath and examine the coin carefully before I smile and put it in my collection. I like the old days more.
Just to be certain, you might want to apply a tiny bit of acetone to the edge with a q-tip, to make sure it isn't painted. It may be the photo, but it looks like a possibility to me. (Better check with the seller to get permission first, though.)
I was thinking the same thing ... Brown varnish or something maybe? I wanted someone more experienced to chime in first... The coin looks good though.
Certainly a very good price, considering a similar one sold last may in good/very fine condition for 250 swiss franc ( or 250 US $) !
Welcome to coin talk, Ocatchix! I love the handle and avatar. (In the English version he was "Boneywasawarriorwayayix.")
Thank you Severus Alexander. Happy that a guy from western Canada was reading the same comic book as I was...
