This is the first time I've seen that one. I'll have to look. There was also a silver Washington with a similar tight blue/yellow bands around the same time.

And John Albanese... (not specific to the two examples in this thread)

Judging people by post count? Quite unwise.

    Check out his collection:

I wouldn't equate a nice coin collection with expertise either to be fair. I have no idea who he is. That's part of the problems with online coin forums. Some posters just parrot others (not targeted to anyone who has posted thus far in this thread).

How silly of me, to expect that an expert do more than show off his deep pockets on instagram. And he has several coins in that collection that need to go on our thread about AT slabbed coins.

There's to much light on them. It's fine for things like Morgans but Seated and Bust stuff gets washed out by it a lot and usually looks much less attractive than it really is especially on the bigger coins.

There is absolutely no confirmation that these coins were actually submitted to CAC or that John Albanese has ever seen them. If he would make a statement about these coins, that would convince me.

Some people don't share much or only have time to post pictures. Sure I'd consider some of the posted coins AT, but to judge someone based on post count or only posting on Instagram (which has a large base of collectors and could very well become one of the largest venues for sharing coins) is extremely foolish.

These coins are displaying/mimicking target toning that is caused by an album. You need the reverse photos to see if the toning correspondence is correct.

I'm not judging him based on his post count. What I am saying is that you can't elevate him to expert status when he only has 150 posts. Before I became really active on this forum, I was extremely active on a forum called the TCCS (Toned Coin Collectors Society). The operator of the site died suddenly and all of the content from that forum was lost. And while I have long since forgotten most of the names and handles of the people on that forum, I do remember that their were really rich people who collected rainbow toned coins and didn't know much about them, and then there were guys who bought and sold them and knew the market extremely well. Until he shows his knowledge, I don't know which group he falls in.

I've learned recently to just screenshot them and darken the images on my phone to get a better idea of what it looks like. They definitely wash everything out but they're still nice to make decisions off of with a quick fix. Especially compared to HA which is still brutal IMO

That actually sounds like a really good idea. I'll have to try that sometime. The HA ones got better, but their old pictures were definitely brutal.

The toning correspondence on the dime does not match which is a huge indicator of AT. The obverse displays a color pattern that is unusual in both color progression and vibrancy for Mercury Dimes, but I will say that if that coin is AT, it is very very good.

The ASE is very strange. It looks like it was stored in such a way that the toning source completely covered the reverse but only touched the rims of the obverse. This would be a coin folder but I can't remember seeing any modern folder impart those colors on a coin without help. My first impression of this coin was that is was the most questionable of all the coins shown so far.

Are we sure that these coins have similar grading dates?

From the certs if it's any correlation to the ones I've gotten back the dime was likely early 2017 to sometime in 2016 and the ASE was late 2017 to present

If someone really wanted to go full McGuyver on it you could hunt the shared orders page to narrow down the cert ranged but I would guess they were graded several months to a year or so apart

That is precisely what I said near the beginning of the thread (see quoted part above). I was mainly putting it out there since PCGS will likely remove the thread and then all the discussions will vanish.

I hear ya, but the guy who posted the thread has posted other “watchdog” threads. And I’m not even saying he’s wrong, but if he’s gonna make an accusation like this, he’s gotta show the evidence. Claiming he’s afraid to get in trouble by posting photos or links makes me not trust him.

    And PCGS poofed the thread.
It’s a shame as I did want to see if anyone could give more proof or if it all turned out to be false.

Surprise, surprise... PCGS is more concerned about looking out for its own rear and its so called experts rather than allowing a thread of public importance and interest to continue.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Those are AT'd? I absolutely would not have guessed that. That is some of the most convincing AT I've ever seen, if true.
