Hi, I need a few tips from the highly educated here at CoinTalk to grade proof coins accurately. I personally can't tell the difference between a PR65 and a PR68, and the price range for these two grades usually differ a lot. I recently bought some proof sets for fun, and I was wondering if any of them were remotely worth sending in to NGC or PCGS. Thanks for any tips and help! Here are the best coins from the three sets: 1961 half 1961 dime 1962 nickel 1957 penny 1957 half
I think most of these are 67 with the dime lower. As for grading, I don't think it's worth it. But I am anti grading anyway.
Most very nice proofs of these years shown grade 67 to 68 with a rare 69. I am not a fan of having them graded as well. All your coins are nice Proof examples.
That Lincoln might fetch a '67, but the Franks will only grade out at '65........Nickle and dime, I can't tell due to photog issues (bust 'em out ). Just one sods humble opinion.........
Sweet coins, especially the '61 Franklin. Don't know how to grade proofs yet, but reading responses with keen interest. Thanks for sharing...
Grading proofs from pictures is even more difficult than grading MS coins from pictures. One of the main differences between 65-68 is hairlines and they easily hide in images. Get a loupe and look for hairlines sometimes they can magically appear. I remember wondering why a barber I bought was a proof 63 only it looked flawless. I put a loupe to it and bam hairlines everywhere.
