Does anyone own a cancelled die from the US mint? How much did you pay for it, or how much would you pay to get a generic one-side die like a shield cent or state quarter? There’s a poll above if you don’t want to comment.

    Thanks!

$0. I have enough ground down pieces of steel. However i do have a torch canceled collar die for Kennedy half dollars.

I believe the ANA money museum in Colorado Springs has an uncanceled half eagle die. I wouldnt mind having that.

I thought it could make a fun numismatic gift. “This was made to mint US coins”. Just wanted to get a feel from folks.

Fred Weinberg had a couple for sale not too long ago. Seems that they were sold.

I didn’t major in math in college, but took a few courses and something isn’t adding up here. 1/6 does not equal 25%...

I actually saw one for a 1935 merc dime today. It was partially torched but you could still make out her neck, date and feathers. That one I'd want.

It would be cool to have but it’s one of those things that surviving family members would ask “What the hell is this?” while they’re cleaning out my plethora of junk.

I have one of the cancelled Olympic commem died I purchased directly from the mint in the mid 90s. I think the price was $59

What were they? I have the ability to buy one for around $30-40 and am trying to decide. I think it’s cool, but would prefer to buy something like a state quarter I lived in, or my birth year.

Depends on how it is cancelled - totally defaced, or "X"ed. I paid $650 for an Olympic '95 or '96 dollar die. The totally defaced State Quarters dies that were $29.95 were not worth the steel they were made of.

I voted $26-35 but really it depends on series. Some of the 19th century stuff I’d pay much more for. But for just any old avg die I’d probably have no problem shelling out $25+

This is about how I feel. I think it’s a neat piece to add to an office or somewhere coin related.
