I am thinking to setting up a site to promote Malaysian current mint coins to: 1) the beginners of coin collectors 2) as a gift present 3) to cultivate collection habits among children since the start up cost is very low Would appreciate if you could post your valuable comments here. Go for it. I don't think I've seen any website specialize in Malaysian coins so would be interesting to see some resource exist lol... I have a handful of pocket change from there of the most modern stuff, and the designs are interesting. Also have an older coin from when they were still a British colony (under the name "Malaya.")
Very good idea. It will be a great way to promote that kind of coins, to let people know about it and to help children begining a collection. But IMHO you will have to invest more money on it that the one you may get from it. Don't think about it just as an economic investment. It is not always a good thing to mix collections and investment. Anyway, go for it!
I think this would be a great idea to promote the hobby and perhaps get a few more people involved. I agree that it would be more of a "labor of love" than a profit-making venture, though.
I think it's a terrific idea on many levels. These are attractive coins that deserve a lot more attention. If there were any demand the price would be much higher since many are in short supply. Entry costs are low and potential profit excellent. Say what you will but one of the key ingredients to making and keeping collectors is early success and encouragement. Be forewarned though that this will probably need to be a labor of love. Making money in the promotion will be excessively difficult unless a large market can be established in Malasia which seems a little unlikely. Good luck.
Hi Comrades, I am amaze with the respond with you guys have given me. My appreciation to you who have responded with your expertise and experiences in the forum and the survey as well. The reason I thought of promoting a coin collection site is because I feel that coin collecting is a life time hobby. It has no time limitations and anyone can start anytime at any level. I believe the technology age has not made coin collecting as interesting as computer games. This in fact has made once the interesting part of most senior collectors to be a slow diminishing hobbies around the world. My intention is to promote the collections as a gift, a newbie start-up, to create awareness among the youngsters that coin collection in not an expensive and difficult hobby. I hope everyone will participate in this poll to let me have a better picture of what you think so that I can have a better planning of my site. Thank you All.
