10.00 in cent rolls today, only 2 wheats but good ones, 16-D and a 32-D, both i better shape than the ones in my book. Only way I can get halfs are in 1000.00 bags. Lucky girlfriend only found a 1947 nickel in her search today.

i get cent rolls and go through them. i find wheats some times. usually one per roll. i do find canadians too. i dont know else to look for with pennies so i keep all the pre 82's for their melt value and then sort the 82's for the coppers. i roll the zincs up and trade em in for more rolls.

i want to start doing half dollar rolls but the bank didnt have any the last time.

I have thought about holding onto the pre 82's, but if its illegal to melt them down, whats the point?

its not illegal. its only illegal to deface them, in other words to try and make them say...into a dime. THAT is illegal. melting is not considered defacing and is legal.

You don't need to melt them in the future we will just trade Nickels & Cents like 90% now.

Just ask Jackson Metals of Ohio. I believe that they were the reason the director of the mint issued the ban on melting pennies/nickels. I bet the potenial for them to move the actual melting up to Canada was the reason for the ban on carrying more than $5 worth when you leave the country.

I just ordered 6 Licoln Cents that I need for my set, and that bumps my % complete up a bit. I am having fun searching cents, but can't wait until I move on to Nickles. Even though its fun and exciting to find a wheat cent, I have pulled 13 or so so far and can't really trade them/ sell them for anything. BUT, I want to finish this set with all AU 59's-08, and then the 1909-1958 just in Fine, and I know there is no way I am going to pull any of the wheats from rolls, because all of the ones I need are pre 36.

I still find wheats from before 1936, but admittedly you would have to seriously bump the volume searched to like $200 per week to finish a collection like that. But let me say this, there is a serious sense of self satisfaction to say that you completed a set entirely from circulation (most will probably never find the key dates, but the semi-keys are definitely still floating around).

out of my last four boxes of halves only found one 1972 S proof. Going to give up on halves for a few months. I did try my first box of dimes, got 2 '62 d, 64, 46 and a nice 1944 merc.

Yeah I am doing about $50 a week is my goal, and I want to be done in about a month. For every box I search, I reward my self with a AU or BU off of ebay, ones that I don't think I am going to pull otherwise.
