I have a nice 1943 steel penny, but I have about 40 or so dirty steel pennies. Are they able to be put in a solution of some sort to clean them a little. I doubt they are worth anything extra in the dirty condition they are in at this point so I wouldn’t be afraid of ruining the value of the coin if I could clean them up a little so they show better. Any thoughts?
The coin you showed has been reprocessed/replated. You won't be able to do anything to the ones that haven't been touched. They will show signs of circulation and rust etc...
The coin you posted does not look like it has it's original mint surface. I think it has been replated. Can you post a better/clearer photo of it? The other 40 you could try a soak in Acetone but I doubt it will help them any.
Replating them was a big business at one time and generated big dollars in profits. That's why it was done. The coin pictured has been reprocessed.
check if any thing missing or out of place in your mind. and get back...although the plating and cleaning would be a big factor in worth. on the otherside any thing out of place let us know for info and to help others. my guess, u like it put in a frame, ingrave my lucky penny. put on your key chain. I had one like that...cool, on a lighter note moody blues live, cant beat it. lets play
