I thought I had a amazing error coin till I see it's just someone wrote on the coin! I just don't get a break! Here thinking it's one of those coins that are worth something but it's not

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Calm down, you're not the first nor the last, and trust me, you all end up on here. Error coins are RARE, they are NOT just swimming out there in the ether waiting to be grabbed up by enthusiastic new recruits. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

I have been a serious collector for now 55 years and I still have not EVER found an error in circulation. And trust me, every coin gets looked at.

I did just receive a 1937-D gunked up Buffalo nickel in change this morning, though. Yes, it has all four legs.

One of the aspects of this hobby is post mint damage and altered coins. People do all sorts of things to coins. Sometimes just to see what it looks like or to just have something to do. Sometimes they alter the coin to make it look like a key date or error. Do not be discouraged, just learn what to look for. Your efforts will eventually be rewarded.

I know but I need a miracle and I know they are rare that's why I got so happy I just happened to find one in a trillion and thought I had a chance

Errors are not what make numismatics a magical hobby. This explosion in error interest seems quite recent and truly befuddles me. Enjoy the rich history that lies in your pocket change. And if you are one of the fortunate few that happen upon an error coin, then consider yourself quite fortunate.

Seems to be happening with some frequency lately. Last week a lady posted a fine 1936 Buffalo she picked up at McDonalds. I think Paddyman received one not long ago as well.

I agree. I too am truly baffled by the sudden huge error coin interest. It always has been a part of the hobby, but I have always been more interested in the history behind the coins and the sheer beauty of some of the designs. I am guessing the instant or short term profitability (or claimed profitability) has something to do with it. Getting rich as a coin collector was never a goal of mine and certainly this hobby is not one where you will get rich.

my guess, being a new finder, not looking, is not hard, in these new additions, to start questioning the integritey of the coin in my hand

Chris I can guarantee your search will have more luck and less stress if you learn how coins are minted, and assume that anything that could be done to a coin in your own garage is not going to be an error.

Learn the Minting process and how errors can occur ... then you won't have to ask too much if it's a Mint Error.
