And perhaps none of this kind of item should be auctioned at all. After all, it was payed for with taxpayer dollars and it seems that this is double dipping. Would it not be much more acceptable to see these items go to museums that would actually display them?
But I would think original state - or even buffed or polished up - would be better than what is the equivalent of a counter stamp of his company on them.
I would love to see them go to museums but I don't have a problem with gov agencies auctioning off items as long as the money goes back in the kitty to use to offset new items or maintain what they have.
He didn't stamp them all. Here, you can buy one here unstamped: https://mikebyers.com/us-25c-feeder-finger-denver-mint.html I suggest you buy it and then donate it to the Smithsonian or other similar institution. Or do you just like to tell other people what they should do with their property?
How do you know that these are the original feed fingers. Having worked in a private mint, we went through feed fingers pretty quickly. They are a consumable product and wear out, or get damaged during striking. Maybe the ones he overstrikes are the newer ones he has machined for his press, and figures he can lower his cost of production. Ever think of that?
He states right in the listing for the ones he is selling. They were acquired when he acquired the machine.
Is that really what the OP is doing, or is he expressing his personal opinion on the matter? You know, kind of like you did here...
Is not owning part of the San Francisco Mint Employee Hoard enough history for just one man? I really applaud your enthusiasm for the preservation of Numismatic history, but you can only do so much.
Oh no, I shot a Morgan Dollar. I have committed a cardinal sin. I can’t wait to be flayed alive by the numismatic community. Calm down people. This is ridiculous. There are more-important things to whine about than someone doing what THEY want with THEIR property.
I didn't express an opinion. I asked a question (see the question mark at the end of the sentence? That indicates a question.)
