Fairly nice 1964 D I just found going through a roll. Most are super beat up. Not a great strike but still good condition! I'll throw it in a 2X2! fullsizeoutput_ddd.jpeg fullsizeoutput_deb.jpeg

I just found my 1st Presidential MEL (Missing Edge Lettering), a 2009 John Tyler. Shout out to @SlipperySocks for reminding me on this thread recently to look for MELs - thanks! It paid off on my 2nd to last roll of the very next box. This box also gave up a number of Sacs, SBAs (including 1981-P & S), & Presidentials I needed for my Dansco albums and backup folders. I also found a couple of impaired proofs (2009-S Zachary Taylor & a rather nice looking 2007-S James Madison). I’m liking these small dollar coins more and more, especially since I’m on a 6 box silver half dollar skunk streak. :jawdrop:

    Selling my current box tomorrow.

Not at all sure where I'll get another.
The store banks at our bank.
But if I can't get those white MWR at the other bank it will make me disappointed.

About 3 weeks ago I picked up what I thought was going to be my last boxes of locally available halves. When I picked them up my favorite teller wasn’t in the branch. I only recognized 1 teller on the entire line. So, I assumed the branch had sent my favorite teller and the other tellers I knew to other branches. I picked up my 2 half boxes from total strangers that day, and didn’t reorder.

Tonight on my way home from work I decided to stop at the same bank branch and ask for loose halves. I stepped inside and lo and behold there was my favorite teller and several other tellers I recognized. Of course, my favorite teller was all smiles and friendly. I asked for loose halves, and she said they didn’t have any, but they had 2 boxes waiting for me in the vault. I felt terrible because I didn’t realize she had ordered for me, and she hadn’t called to let me know the halves had arrived. I didn’t have enough money in my account or cash on me to buy either of the 2 boxes. The bank was busy, so I apologized and told her I would be back to pickup the boxes tomorrow.

I guess I’ll be searching a couple more boxes of locally available halves after all. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll contain at least 1 keeper coin. I likely won’t reorder, but I guarantee you I’ll ask my favorite teller to try and order large dollar coins again!

    Happy hunting all.

Got a whole box of white wrapped MWR.
So far out of 6 three wheats, 1 Ecuador penny (don't know year yet) and fair copper. These rolls are my favorite ones to search.

Maybe missed it but are you deciding not to search halves anymore or was the bank deciding for you?

@SlipperySocks I had decided not to search halves locally because I had found only 4 keeper coins in the last 12 boxes.

I have 2 banks who are happy to keep ordering for me, but I don’t enjoy wasting my time if finds are trending toward next to none.

Besides, I tend to find more keepers asking for CWRs this time of year.

Here is an interesting fact I noticed today thanks to the spreadsheet I created 5 years ago when I started searching boxes of halves:

If I sell my silver finds from the 184 boxes of halves over the last 5 years I will have earned only $2.38/hour for my effort. This amounts to an approximate average of 1, 40% silver half per box.
(Note: The above $/hr excludes error coins because sale values for error coins would vary too much to quantify until the error coins are actually sold)

This proves CRHing is only a hobby!

    HH all :)

    P.S.
Final interesting fact: I also collect antlers and sell them. My $/hr "wage" for this hobby is far more than $2.38/hr, but then the effort is also much greater.

Interesting @berto , thanks for sharing your stats! I’m curious about your antler hobby. Are they deer or other kinds of antlers? What type of person buys them? I’ve heard of training your dog to find & retrieve them, have you tried this? Thanks!

Elk, deer, moose, caribou. There are antler buyers in every state. Check craigslist in your town. Yes, dogs can be trained to find antlers. No, I have not trained my black lab to find antlers, but I bet he could be trained to do so despite the fact he is already 15 months old.
