Cuban coins.

Is there any members who collect the coins of Cuba,both pre-Commie & Commie? No,Fidel Castro has NEVER appeared on a Cuban coin,but he
has been depicted on a few Cuban banknotes.

I glanced at some cuban gold but it seemed pricey. Then again, I was in Miami at the time.

 

I have got a 1990 3 Pesos from Cuba.It has the head & shoulders portrait of Che Guevara.Did you know that Cuba even had an Esperanto Congress commemorative coin? It is a 1 Peso dated 1990,
which has the logo of the Esperanto Congress & a portrait of Ludvik Zamenhof,the creator of the Esperanto language.

 

is it legal to own cuban coins in the u.s.???? I've heard about the whole thing about cigars but not sure if this holds true with their coinage as well(or anything else from the country)

 

I accumulate more than collect. There are more here in Europe to get since they bring them back from vacation. I have some Cuban coins and even mint condition 3 peso Che Guevera's that I got on a trip to Havana.

As for legailty.....technically it is probably illegal to collect (or at least trade in) post-1961 coins, but even eBay allows them now. I do not think anyone would say anything.

 

Castro appeared in some Commemorative Cuban Pesos, KM 253, KM 254, KM 255 and KM 612 for example.

 

Well,Cuba has been issuing a series of coins based on 100 Centavos = 1 Peso Convertible,which is intended for tourists since 1994.I have got the 1994 & 1996 10 Centavos & the 1994 50 Centavos.
The Cubans did issue a series of Visitors' Coinage in
the 1980's.
