Lot 46 caught my eye. Not sure I'll be able to pursue it, though.

    Wish I could. :(

Maybe if I find a lost C-note in the couch...

@Severus Alexander, what an amazing auction! I was blown away by the selection of coins (many historical or rare) being offered at low starting bids. I encourage everyone to check this auction out!

Prices are in Canadian... basically it means it's free for Americans or Europeans :)

Here is a piece of Canadian "money" you might not be familiar with. From 1685 to 1714 in what was New France and is now the province of Quebec there was a shortage of money. Those in charge gathered up playing cards and on the backs they wrote denominations. Also on the baks were the names of the officials responsible for issuing the money. The playing cards were used for money for a few decades in total. They were supposed to be exchanged for coinage coming from France but the shipments were often delayed. Therefore some form of money was necessary.

The face cards were worth the most and today they still are. I ended up with the ten of spades instead in a recent Canadian auction. All of these are very rare today. Playing cards were also used as money during the French revolution. Those ones are even rarer than the example I have.

Hopefully the Nutella coins were wrapped in something and not just dunked straight into the product! They should've done a 12 Caesars set.

(I've never tried Nutella, BTW. Heard it's pretty good.)

Pavlos You pick out the big men. I'll make them brave!

Some very nice and interesting coins I want to go for.

Does anyone maybe know what the import charges could be from Canada to Europe? Sometimes I order from the US and a 30 dollar item can quickly have 18 euro (21 dollar) import charges, really ridiculous.

If you go to Europe, there is no way to avoid Nutella. It is equivalent to JIF Peanut Butter here.

It's amazing and a breakfast staple in Italy. I especially love it inside a croissant!

I cleaned it myself but I wish I had left a nutella "patina" on it in the fields :)

I'm also currently high bidder on a nice Domitian

So they DID dunk 'em straight into the Nutella? And did make other emperors?

What a fascinating and unusual piece of history! Queen Anne's War was raging during the period your artifact was in use and Quebec was under attack by the British and New Englanders. Using Ancestry.com, I was able to trace my paternal grandfather's family back to this period and discovered that some of them fought in that war.

We've been struggling with the kids during all their childhood to avoid Nutella at home : it's just gluing fat and sugar paste with a, very, vague taste of nut and chocolate. I prefer by far my chocolate to taste dry plain dark chocolate.
But to each its own I guess :)

BTW, congrats @Severus Alexander for a nice and interesting auction, it's eye candy. I've already got some items marked and have now to make a choice....decisions, decisions !

Wow, thank you for all the positive responses, CoinTalk friends! I'm very happy you're pleased. I really do want AMCC (or is it AMNCC? :hilarious:) to be super-friendly venue for Ancients Forum regulars, both to sell and to buy.

Sorry, John, we only accept that kind of Canadian money for the Nutella coin... ;)

Unfortunately we had to remove the 1995 Nutella patina. It was smelly. :yack:

It tastes just like Ferrero Rocher which is pretty good. (But I definitely share your taste preference... give me a nice dark Valrhona instead any day of the week.)

It has been a while since I've seriously collected Canadian stuff... but THAT is awesome!!
