How about a forum/thread for coins that have been made into jewelry? I am suggesting this as my wife and I recently purchased a bag of jewelry at a flea market that looked to have some interesting stuff. We found a Victorian love token pin that was made from an 1876 seated liberty quarter(There are initials where the eagle once was-I mourned a bit when I figured out what they did 140 years ago). Also we found a 1938 peso coin from the United States of Mexico that appears to have been gold plated. They look cool and I got a kick out of the first seated liberty I ever held. After a bit of research I discovered the love tokens are a big deal: https://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/how-victorians-fell-in-love-with-pocket-change/ Here’s the peso which was made into a pendant. Cool eagle with a snake in its beak.
This is very upsetting as a half dime collector mintage 24000 and value 3000/$5000 in its current condition minus the hole and pie wheel cuts. Sad to see a very valuable specimen reduced to scrap medal.
$1 gold love token with hole and ring: I got it for a bit over melt. I sold it to a dealer with a Charlotte love token customer for, well, a good bit more than that.
A very cool token from a 1876 IHC if the reverse looked as good as the obv. does I much rather had the 76 cent intact. Paid $5 I'm thinking xf 45/Au 50 350/$450?+/-
I know the pictures arent very good. Ill probably take better ones tommorow These are two 1945 2 1/2 gold pesos that were made into earrings. They were owned by my great grandmother, meaning that they were made into jewelry not long after they were made.
