Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

I sorta hijacked a thread with this earlier, so I figured I should create my own.

I'm conducting an experiment with old dateless Buffaloes in the till here at work. I've put a couple of dollars worth in with the regular nickels to see if anyone is paying attention to the change they receive back. Surprisingly I've only had 2 people out of dozens that have actually looked to see that I've given them this little "gift" before they walk out the door.

I guess this goes to show that most people don't pay any attention to change and why our hobby continues to provide us with our daily finds.

My LCD is just a couple of storefronts over from me and hope these people swing by and see if there's any value in them and maybe browse around and buy something else while they're at it.

Man, I'd be all over those! I sort through my coins religiously. Have only found 4 buffaloes though!

I don’t disagree. I do believe people these days have so much to be distracted by, the change they receive gets little or no scrutiny. It surprises me still how often I find change at store entryways and such.

I would bet most of the old coins we find though is what was left in grandmas jewelry box when she passed and the family simply reintroduced it into circulation. I saw a thread this morning. A member received a really nice 1936 Buffalo in change at McDonald’s. Had that been in circulation all these years the date would be worn smooth..... But then again.... Maybe she visited your establishment??

That was the post I semi-hijacked BTW and hers was in way too good of shape.

A poster on another coin board tried passing a 1950 $10 bill as a similar experiment.

He was arrested for passing counterfeit notes and later cleared.

Get some Half Dollars from the bank and see how many ask for two quarters instead so they can use them in a vending machine. It is fun to at least bring a smile to a few people. The sheep don't notice.

Hopefully they counter charged or sued the prosecuting party for their ignorance?
I had a roll of spender halves I used at Dunkin for my morning coffee. The lady at the pay window asked me after a few days if I was about out of them because their drawer wasn't set up for anything other than P-N-D-Q. Pretty sure that some of the people right behind me in the drive thru got them in their change.

Its been a few years now..... I had a roll of Ike's maybe ten years ago. I gave some to nieces and nephews during a visit and drove back home with maybe half the roll. I left them at coffee houses for tips.

I spent a half dollar once, and the checkout girl asked me if that was one of the new dollars that were coming out. I told her to read what it said on the back. She shrugged then went along like nothing happened.
