Welcome to CT. Nice image. Folks really need to see both sides of the coin but I'll take a guess from just the obverse. I'm thinking EF-45 to AU-50. Nice natural color. Value is about $3-$4.
If the reverse looks like the obv. There is only slight wear on the feather tips headband and ribbon. I would think around au50 plus or minus one in todays standards.
Just out of curiosity. How can this Indian cent be graded a XF by the PCGS and mine be a au-50? Is there something I'm missing?
Nice photograph. Members like to see a clear, cropped picture of the obverse and reverse to proffer opinions.
Let me understand, is the photograph you posted one graded by PCGS, or your coin? The way you worded post #11 leads me to believe it is not your coin.
The coin graded by PCGS is not mine. The other is (the 1900 date) I am well aware I'm no expert on coin grading but I've focused my study on learning how to properly grade coins exclusively on Indian Head and Lincoln cents because I mainly collect cents. From my understanding my 1900 should grade no lower than MS-60. I'm just trying to learn and if my 1900 is only XF. Everything I've read, studied, and was told my serious collectors was wrong. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Justen Thanks Man!
Grading brown copper is not all that easy to learn. Grading from images is even more fun. With this coin I see wear and a lack of luster that's needed for an MS grade. Still a nice coin.
The 1900 looks no better than AU53, imo, slight wear, may have been cleaned too, reverse wear keeps overall grade down. That 1909 is showing much more wear evidence in the headdress feathers near the rim and elsewhere, confirming ballpark XF conclusion...Spark
