PicsArt_11-11-10.32.40.png The other day I pulled up to Mcdonalds because there was nothing at my house that I wanted to have for breakfast. I parked and walked in, but quickly turned around because the line was quite long. I thought drive through would be more faster. I ordered my usual which is a sausage biscuit, a hash Brown, with one butter and one syrup and a cup of hot water. Total 2.17$ I handed the young lady three one dollar bills. She ended up giving me ice water instead of hot and she totally forgot my butter and syrup. I was beginning to get really frustrated until she handed me my change. As I waited for my cup of hot water I checked my change like I always do and found this beauty! Don't know much about its value in fact I have little knowledge about the Indian Head buffalo nickles. Please educate me!

Regardless if it's worth a lot or not, finding a buffalo nickel in change is pretty rad. Congrats!

What a great find. It's hard for me to grade by photos but taking a guess I'd grade your Buffalo nickel at VF 20-25 and the value is about a dollar or two.

Not sure but looks like some doubling on the date. Especially the "3". Anyways, nice find!

Great find! Bet you're glad you checked your change. Nice looking Buffalo Nickel. Only worth about a dollar but how sweet to find one in change.

nice coin, thanks for sharing. Getting a coin like yours in change makes me smile. I have not gotten one that good in a looooooooooong time. The last time I had one, I was giving them away to promote a coin show.

Great find! The last time I had a McDonald's sausage biscuit the result wasn't as rewarding.

That's a keeper. Go to coinstudy.com to find out more information about your coin.

The majority of circulating buffalo nickels are either a smeared two digit date or a slick with the date completely worn off. Your find has four clear digits in the date. The key to grading lower grade buffalos besides the date are the horn on the buffalo. Your shows nearly the entire horn so it is vf. Higher grades the tail comes into play. Half horn would be fine. congratulations.

  20. Nice find! In Ireland we lost the opportunity of finding old coins in our change about 1971 when the £-s-d coinage went decimal. As schoolkids back then, we'd vie with each other who'd find the oldest coin in their change. Sometimes you'd get a penny or half-penny as far back as the 1860's! Invariably, back then most pre-1900 coppers were so worn they looked like thin discs with only faint outlines of the design and queen's head. You'd be lucky to get one with a readable date.

    Nice find!

I'm actually conducting an experiment with old dateless Buffaloes in the till here at work. I've put a couple of dollars worth in with the regular nickels to see if anyone is paying attention to the change they receive back. Surprisingly I've only had 2 people out of dozens that have actually looked to see that I've given them this little "gift".

I guess this goes to show that most people don't pay any attention to change and why our hobby continues to provide us with our daily finds.
