It took the Germanic people almost 1000 years to perfect their coinage, from the time they sacked Rome. Then from 1500-1800 their coinage was magnificent. Here is my AV 5 Dukaten 1640 Munchen Mint/ Bavaria/ Maximilian I View attachment 844177
Yes, I had won that 2016 posted coin from Heritage. A few months later, they said that they had to cancel that/ never found out why. So, when I saw this coin in Slovak Auction, I jumped on it. The Heritage one went for2800US/ this one 950 Euros....way cheaper. If, this falls thru, then I will know this coin has a curse:dead:

How strange that Heritage has expunged it from their archives! Perhaps the consigner reneged or someone questioned the authenticity or ownership? I wonder why they wouldn't tell you what happened. Their handling of the matter doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy toward them.

Or.....maybe it was "stolen" property. This happened when a crook put Nicholas Gage's rare Batman comic up for auction. Macho&Chaplovic are a really reputable auction house, they go thru all their consigned coins, before they end up on the internet/ catalogue. In my other hobby/ rare butterflies/moths there were a lot of corrupt stuff going on, that was one reason I went with coins. With TPG, at least they are guaranteed to be authentic/ and are scrutinized for defects like cleaning/ tooling/ etc.

Yes I see that....I can assure you as well as professor kewl I am well versed in English as well as two other languages.....what I am not good at is checking after my post is sent.I use a Samsung pad which has a grammer and spell check program that changes both spelling and grammer useage . It is very annoying ,and also accounts for edits to my post quite often when it is noticed.
I will need to Google the fix to disengage the program. ;)

Curious that it didn't correct "grammer" to "grammar" and "useage" to "usage."

Does Samsung make a model that will add ancient numismatic content to posts otherwise devoid of a reason for being other than showing the poster's lack of interest in the coins covered by this forum?

g82060bb1135.jpg The above coin shows a subject of just as a potential inappropriate ecological topic as the OP joke. Overconsumption caused the plant shown here to go extinct. Who know who is credited with consuming the last known specimen? (Probably no more accurate than George Washington cutting down the cherry tree but we have what we have).

See: ancient numismatic content from a newby.

Hello. New to CT and to numismatics in general. I just wanted to comment that I’m pleased to be a part of a group that is well-informed and educated about current science and politics.

Sarcasm aside, I do enjoy the coin posts and have learned a good deal reading them. I appreciate those who share their knowledge and experience. So, thank you.

    Nero.

Rumor has it that he smoked it in a six bowled bong, a modified oinochoe normally used for irrigating Corn Mummies in an Osirian ritual.

Well okay, I started that rumor. But Nero is reported to have consumed the last of the silphium (Pliny, Natural History, book XIX chapter 15).

Silphium edited to add TIF beat me to the plant. I didn't know who "consumed" the last.

Thanks, Panzer! You’re right: just only for Chintila, there are mints in Bracara (Braga), Caliabria (Calabre), Egitania and Eminio (Coimbra). The most of them unique.

Obviously they had some poor intern (drunk on Kool-Aid) design the die for this coin and told him it would never see the light of day, but alas they lied to him and shipped the coins all over the world.
