1969 s penny error

    What caused this damage ..

    Both side are pretty bad .. I see letter and numbers where they are not supposed to be ..

    Looks like acid has hit it .. idk

    Any help would be great full

    looks like someone dropped it in the toilet then flushed it out.

    Maybe someone dipped it in apple vinegar, instead of white vinegar. Then let it dry up. Being pinkish with gunk over it makes me think that. I think I'm possibly 0-1% or so correct.

    The possibilities are endless.

    It's best to consult the people that have had the cent in hand since it was minted, gather information of what and how they handled the cent. Then through sleuthing you should be able to determine what exactly happened to it after gathering all that information.
