For now, with these pictures and the information I’ve provided, it’s easy to say it’s not a proof cent, but until I can provide you guys with the proper information and pictures, please don’t try to stop the idea that these are proofs right here, as there isn’t enough information to come to a conclusion.
Kid, you have to understand... Over the years countless people have come to the forum claiming to have a Matte Proof Lincoln Cent. We know from the mintage numbers that it’s not possible for all of them to actually be MPLs. A few have checked out, but the overwhelming majority were business strike coins, no matter how much we wanted them to be proofs. Continue your research. Accept the skepticism for exactly what it is. Try to prove your case, and accept the truth whatever that happens to be. As someone said earlier in this thread, until a TPG says it’s a Proof, it’s a business strike coin.
I understand that this is obviously something that people claim to have a lot. I also understand the mintage numbers. I am continuing my research, and I always accept skepticism for what it is. In this situation it is going to happen, I have a lot of skepticism about it as well, I’m agnostic at the moment to if this die pair made any proof coins but I’m on my way to proving it. Any skepticism helps as that pushes me to prove my point, but what doesn’t help is being told that my coin isn’t the proof die pair already known and being told to look at an actual clock. I know that this isnt a coin from those die pairs, and I also know where the numbers on a clock are, I just made a few mistakes in this post in the starting stages of my research and excitement. I’m 18, I may be a kid but I have experience here that wasn’t displayed in my early morning ramble on why I might have a proof 1909 VDB cent. As I said, I’ll compile my evidence better. It’s my bad for the confusion
Nothing wrong with research. That education will stick with you forever. Many experts have researched these to death and much has been published. I don't think it's going to happen but it would be really cool if something new is discovered. Years ago, Charmy (The Penny Lady) found something. I forgot what was decided. Can anyone remember this?
Yes, Charmy and another collector Soty27 from the PCGS boards found different coins at almost the same time that proved to be from the 2nd die pair. I think Charmy got credit for the discovery. That die pair is what SilverStackerKid is basing his claim that this VDB is a proof. The discovery coin was the 1909, not the 1909VDB as i mentioned earlier in this thread.
Here a a couple of links from the PCGS boards concerning the discovery coin(s). Hopefully both work https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/771316/new-1909-mpl-die#latest https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/772338/1909-mpl-new-die-listing-updated#latest
I know it’s not from that die pair, as I mentioned before in this thread, my claim has changed, and as I mentioned before in this thread, I’m continuing my research. And as I mentioned before in this thread, I don’t think it’s a proof as I don’t know 100%, read my posts after the original posting before continuing to say I’m claming that this is a proof based off of that die pair, thank you. I have acknowledged the mistakes I have made in my original posting and I have said that I am going to continue doing research.
Hi all! What are your thoughts on my MLP? Nobody seems to know what Im talking about regarding a second die for the 1909 MLP on another coin forum
