I’ve been finding lots of large date ‘70 S, this is the first one I’m questioning. I’m leaning with large, but would like another opinion.

    Thanks! AFEA8111-2176-4413-97FC-57588BF3CE58.jpeg

Almost got a crick in my neck turning to look at this one, but I think it's a large date.

Welcome to CT. It's a large date.

Almost all of them are going to be large dates.

Thank you! I’m just excited that I’m finally getting S mint coins, and in good shape besides. I made the switch from cwr to boxes of bwr and couldn’t be happier! Apparently there are a lot of people around here picking through coins.

Is the mint mark higher on the small date or is that just my imagination? Or is it different on each die? 1970 S is hard to eyeball so I started to look at the position of the MM and it seemed higher compared to the bottom of the 9 for the SD. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Mint marks were hand punched during those years, so yes they can be a lot of variations, but they do help out in position for many coins that were hand punched as "indicators" for variety coins.
