Not an over date. I agree with Michael, no 43/1 overdate. Maybe a die chip. Others with a better eye will likely chime in.
I know it's not in th books but I wante others to look at this. I've been collecting for over 40 years. I was totally surprise to find this. I want others to look at this. Picture was taken by a microscope.
With complete respect, sir; it doesn't even remotely resemble a 1. Unfortunately, this is an example of allowing ourselves to see what we want to instead of what's actually there.
I agree with @BooksB4Coins. You took some nice pics and that makes it easy to see that it doesn't come close to resembling a 1. It looks like a small but interesting die chip Probably doesn't add much, if anything to the value of the well circulated coin, but it's definitely cool due to the location
A small worn die chip is what it looks like to me. There is a 3/2 variety but not a 3/1. It could have been damaged and worn but it looks more like a die chip.
The Rim looks flat due to circulation wear and the 3 was somehow in that damage. Looks like a hit to me.
