I almost cried as I watched the following video. https://www.facebook.com/VT/videos/1919955661418859/
Could be worse. I came across an eBay listing for a Seated Dollar ring. They were asking around $400, so I assume (hope) that the coin they started with was already badly damaged.
Some people would stick their fist through the Mona Lisa then post a video about how clever they are.
Cry all ya want, but that's just blasted kool..........no animals were were hurt, and no rare coins were disemboweled......
That's an awful lot of work to make one ring but it's pretty cool anyway. The author certainly has some skills.
I've watched a guy on and off on YouTube that makes these rings. He also makes small bells out of the coins. The coins that I've seen him start out with are usually pretty decent.
Friends of mine make coin rings. Very profitable (depending upon how you calculate labor hours). They like Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars and other coins with nice designs on them - so they need good detail. One friend also was using Gold coins - St Gaudens, AGEs and smaller to create coins. Being whizzed or not doesn't matter as they clean them and then may use a dark wax to bring out the visual details on silver coins. A few were made for me from Walking Liberties, etc as I have small fingers. Although I had forgotten that my skin is allergic to silver and upon putting a ring on my finger immediately swelled. Luckily I was in the kitchen and put soap on it and got it off. He was going to send me a gold ring sooner or later. I have to have 18k or higher.
I have a Morgan ring, i dont understand covering it up with a Canada large cent though.(?) I would use a peace dollar personally. I dont have a press, so i could never make one this fast/accurate. I do however have the tools to make a coin ring. You need a small piece of thick walled pvc pipe, Sanding block, punch, ring mandrel, digital calipers, small sledge & a torch. I've been wanting to crank a few of these out & slang them at the flea market/online. At one point i was hoping to have every man, woman & child in the tri-state area sporting one of my rings.
I think this coin ring makes me the saddest... it’s an 1831 quarter! I assume (hope) it was heavily damaged, but still...
I have to admit (proudly) that those Canadian maple leaves are the highlight of that ring. Nevertheless, I am reminded of that old saying 'just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should'...
