    It's not an S mint mark. 1981 S is a proof coin.
I have seen this coin in another thread.
I see the S, but whatever it is, this coin is worth 1 cent.

is it wise to send to grading

Grading is very expensive. A coin needs to be worth a lot of money,
or something that needs to be authenticated. (A certain type of error, or gold or other coins that are often faked, to prove it is a genuine coin.)
Coins have a very hard life and all kinds of things happen to them. I don't know what this S is from, but it is unlikely to raise the value of this coin in this case.

There is a Mint Error known as a Dropped Letter but I don't think you have that. The S is too small in relationship to any other S on the Coin.
What you have is some sort of anomaly. Some weird die chip, gunk or stain

By the way.. You can send any coin to get graded. If you have a question about something different on a coin then you would send it to get attributed. That's a totally different service that costs a bit more money.

I thought about dropped letter, but the color in this case makes me think it is something else. It might not even be an S intentionally, and just the shape of whatever this thing is, reminds us of the letter S.

It appears to be a numismatic pareidolia Stain.

Any chance someone tried to make an "S" on this coin for deception purposes?

Do the magnet test first. Might save a lot of wasted effort.

It does not stick to the magnet

1982 small date copper has value in the highest grades, otherwise 1 cent.
The 1943 if not steel is most likely a Chinese counterfeit or an altered coin. Please show photos.
