A friend let me borrow these ancient coins in order to identify them. His great aunt left them to his father which have been sitting around his parents house as a decoration all his life. I thought they may be authentic considering the size of the coins and history of his family. Any help would be appreciated. Dime is included for size comparison.
Incredibly wreckless and unjustified guess on the lower coin: Valentinian II, as Caesar, from ca. A.D. 375-378, SECVRITAS REI-PVBLICAE reverse depicting Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm branch.
One of them is Islamic for sure. Probably a silver dirham. BTW.. Have you noticed the head of a bull with 2 horns in the middle center?
The bigger one is islamic, but billon with just a little silver. It is a coin issued under the reign of Khwarezmshah Ala-ud-din Muhammad (1200-1220AD). The object in the center is not a bull with horns. It is the name of the mintcity "Kurzu/wan" in arab divided over the two sides. The proper position to read the center text is like this: For reference : Tye#270, Album-1738.
