Apologies in advance for the poor quality coin. I know which one I want it to be, and feel like I see some possible indicators. Curious if this is worthy of taking to the next coin show for help and/or possible slabbing for further identification/proof. I took a bunch of pics with different lighting to try to help out. I can post more pics if needed. I have looked at this coin so much, I almost started thinking it was an 1883. :wacky: Any and all feedback welcome. Thanks folks.

Sorry, but your coin has so much corrosion damage that it’s going to be nearly impossible for an expert or TPG to determine if it’s an 8/7. In addition, it looks like the lower left of the last 8 took a hit, wiping out that area for use as a diagnostic. FWIW, I think the corrosion and damage are playing tricks on what you see.

Do you feel that the indicator on the bottom of the last 8 where that arrow is pointing could be legit, or is it just due to corrosion? I can easily understand the top left indicator could be due to damage. Certainly seeing the coin in person with a loop helps some - I'm using a 7x triplet and a 30x for my coins currently, and I am taking these pics with my new cell phone until I can afford to purchase a nice stereo microscope. Also, do you feel any of the other non-date indicators are visible? Thanks for the feedback.

It will not be possible to confirm an overdate on that coin. The date position might be usable to rule it out, but it's too far gone otherwise.

Also, the odds you are convincing yourself you are seeing an 88/7 are much, much higher than the coin actually being an 88/7.

I don’t see the cud at 9:00 on the obverse, so I think that rules it out.

Looks like someone once upon a time tried to tool the date to make a very rare 1833 IHC
