I see so many 70s pennies that are posted on Internet as valuable. I really need input on which 70s pennies I should hone in on. As a new collector, I would love your input.
Well, the 1970 S penny, 1971 penny, and the 1977 D to start. But these people on the net want huge amounts for these pennies.
You need to really get to know Cents made in all years to understand which are normal and which are valuable. Many sites, such as Etsy are just ridiculous. Some people make up their own prices and confuse many new collectors.
Exactly, that's why I'm confused. I thought maybe you could give me clue about which 70s Pennies are valuable. I've separated my coins by years. After exhausted my attempt at the 80s, I'm trying to go back the 70s ones.
Depends what you are looking for. You need to understand what Mint Errors, Varieties, Key Dates (Low Mintages), Small Date Large Date, Re-punched Mint Marks, etc... but this does not only apply to Cents minted in the 1970's... It applies to all Cents!
Not including errors which are rare, the only cent from the 70's is the 1970-S small date. I've never found one in 48 years. With cents besides the 1960 plain small date, you really want 1958 and before. I've also never found the 1960 Philly small date.

Very nice references. I've wondered what I should be looking for as well. Currently I collect everything 1981 and older, not knowing what I should be looking for. I have probably 50 pounds (maybe more) mostly Wheaties, will take me a long time for me to look through. Right now I add 20 to 50 a day to my collection (all from circulation or bank rolls).
For starters, get one of these: Available from many sources, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Book-U...de+book+of+united+states+coins+by+r.s.+yeoman
I have maybe a handful of teens and 20's, a bunch of 30's but mostly 40's and 50's. At work (retail) I found 11 old rolls of pennies in my drawer. I opened the first to put in the change dispenser and they were all in the 60's. I opened the second and they were all wheat pennies. I bought all the rolls out of my drawer. When I got home I realized they all had notes on them, 60-64, 50-58, 40's, etc. Some of the rolls I still haven't opened. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to save, roll and label these. It's amazing what people will spend, usually on cigarettes.
I work 14+ hours a day, so while I collect a lot of coins, I don't have much time to go through them. I collect: Pennies: 1981 and older Nickels: 1959 and older (prefer war nickels) Dimes: 64 and older Quarters: 64 and older Half Dollars: All ( I keep everyone I get, have hundreds) Dollars: All full size (not so much the smaller gold ones) I was actually paid a 1890 Morgan and 1923 Peace dollars for a $1.50 Toll Any odd/old paper money: Silver certificates, old bills, $2 bills, anything unusual
