I found this in pocket change finally got some decent pics of it..i think it's a dd but not an expert and can't find any pics of one like this.. can email better pics magnified..
Perhaps on the WE and the face, but the 5 and 9 look like wear. Almost 10:00 in CA and 1:00 AM on the east coast, you will get more responses, but you might have to wait awhile.
Ok then.. Sorry I tried to help. Someone else my have a different view. Good luck @Rick Stachowski maybe?
I'm sorry didn't mean to come off snoty...i just think this quarter is a dd it has the tail on the 5 and a double face I do nt understand how wear would have anything to do with why this quarter has a extra line by his face...bit thank you for replying
That occurs as a result of Mechanical Doubling which has nothing to do with true Doubled Die doubling.
I see the tail. That could be Die Deterioration. So DDD - Die Deterioration Doubling also nothing to do with a true Doubled Die
You may want to extend your research on Mechanical Doubling (or Machine Doubling) vs Die Deterioration Doubling vs Hub Doubling (Doubled Die). But I recommend do *NOT* use YouTube. Most of the videos on youtube lead ppl to adventures that are just plain incorrect. Search for websites that are very complete and detailed .. not just one or a few pages of clickbait that state you can "be rich". Even WikiPedia is a good start. And don't forget that most old coinage errors have been found already. So you should be able to find detailed information about your error. Also don't forget coinage can get unlimited various types of damage, worn down and any and everything else during it's usage throughout the decades.
FYI, I'm no 3-1/2 decade coin shop expert like PaddyMan is but here's my take ... Clearly a pareidolia split 5. Mostly from 53 years of general circulation wear and DDD. DDD / Mechanical Doubling You have a lot to learn.
There is really nothing there except for die wear & circulation wear. (The doubling you think you see is not what you think it is.) But keep up the hunt!
