This is an odd looking coin. The obverse looks like it has heavy horizontal roller marks, but the reverse has wavy vertical stripes. I'm guessing both are from some type of environmental damage, but does anyone know what does this. In the picture of the reverse the surface looks rough, but it's not, it's just "stained" like this.
It is a neat looking coin. At first I thought is was from an improper alloy mixture, but the reverse makes me question that. Maybe it was done in the washing process?
Maybe it was an improper washing mix and lamination. That is why they( whoever did) did the washing mix.
This looks like Michael K said. A woodie, improperly mixed alloy with a harsh cleaning. That was my first thought.
At first glance, I thought the reverse might be due to improper storage, i.e., a textured holder or possibly glue due to the inconsistent patterns.
You're right, it does look something like that. There's no residue or roughness to the surface, but it does look like a cardboard pattern.
Go to Google and look up improper alloy mix, streaked alloy, streaked planchet, and woodie. Some of these coins are as nice and as unusual as this one.
