I just started collecting coins about one week ago. I'm still trying to figure out whats an error and not. Coins: 1971-D, 1968-D, 1957-D,1944-D and 1943-S
@Christopher Kryger I see normal circulation finds. No major Mint Errors. Just slight Misaligned strikes. Are you collecting to keep or to sell? A lot of minor mint errors and varieties really don't have a high premium or none at all. Here is a website to start you yo understand mint errors and varieties - http://www.error-ref.com http://doubleddie.com
Welcome to Cointalk The 71 D appears to have a slightly MAD ( misaligned die) on the reverse, the 43 S appears to have some damage to IGWT.JMO Dave
Websites like these or a good book on error coins will be invaluable OP. If someone collects error coins, they need to become an expert exactly how a coin is made. It is this knowledge that will enable them to know a true error from PMD, etc. Once you can describe to us or anyone exactly how a die is created and a coin is struck, and everything that can go wrong, then you will be in a GREAT position to spot errors you come across.
Hey guys, thanks for all the responses. I have a lot to learn especially not to view every little thing as an error. Hopefully with in time I'll be able to spot true errors. Thanks again, Chris
