I came across this 2004 P dime that has a dull surface on both sides and no rim. It does not appear to me that it was a chemical or deterioration that caused this because the outer rim is evenly exposed. Looks to me like the planchet used to make the dime was bad. Any opinions? Does this kind of error have any value?
looks like damage. the edge looks like acid damage. wait for other opinions... not a error in my opinion....PMD post mint damage...
It won't appear to you like that anymore when you start to understand how this type of damage occurs. As stated by the other members.. Harsh Chemical damage. Copper core erosion Not a Mint Error. Only worth 10 Cents
I also have found a few like that and thought I had found something when I started but soon found out just damage (PMD. Dave
Since I search huge amounts of dimes I see one of these every couple weeks. Maybe it’s the same one because it gets rolled up to return to circulation. Acidic damage imho
It looks exactly like it has been soaked in a corrosive environment. Note the edge of the coin, The copper, being more reactive, has been eaten away faster than the copper nickel layers giving it the "oreo cookie effect".
