hello everyone I'm new here to the forum I have had this coin for about 12 years now purchased it from a old indian pawn shop for about $25 wanting to know what it would be graded at and aproximate value thanks everyone
could you get some more pic's?? Maybe a close up of the CC? Something about the coin is making me worry about it, but I can't put my finger on what it is. Speedy
It looks like an XF coin that has been lightly cleaned, though perhaps that's the lighting. As such, it should be worth approximately $80 (and possibly up about $120), depending upon the extent of the cleaning.
Looks like it could be a VAM-6. ----------------------------------- 1890-CC VAM-6 Doubled 18 6 III2 4 - C3f (Doubled 18) I-3 R-4 1 doubled strongly across top. 8 doubled slightly at rtop. First C in mint mark doubled with spike to left of top serif and at the lower inside.
Doesn't the different size of the C's in the mintmark bother anyone else? One is short and fat, and the other one is tall...... Speedy
Here's an NGC certified example on Ebay on which the mint-mark appears similar, so my guess is that it's OK:http://cgi.ebay.com/1890-CC-Morgan-...yZ139811QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Might have been nicked or squashed in the past by another coin, etc... I'd have to see it in hand or have better pics. Take Care Ben
I'm no specialist on CC issues, but I've seen a number of coins (particularly fractional Seateds) with very strange mintmarks. Widely seperated, different size, tilted...
