I like the wheat ears on all of the designs. I'd go for the ring necked pheasant over the bison if it were a little more centered looking, just because the bison is overdone now. I think Mt. Rushmore is more appropriate, though. (Just don't go there during biker week)

Is the other huge stone carving of the indian on the horse in South Dakota too? It would make a nice coin.

    Crazy Horse.

Being a bison fan I voted for #2. My next pick would have to be #3 the pheasant. I have had enough Presidents on coins even if they are rocks in this instance!

    Ed,

I had to go with design #4. I like the combination of the Buffalo and Mt. Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore by itself looks too much like the half dollar commemorative.

I also think that the wheat stalks should be removed. I thought they grew corn in South Dakota, not wheat.

I voted for the the state bird, which is a Chinese import, and most accurately reflects the country we live in.

I voted for #1, I found #4 & 5 as way to busy. Buffs have already been used, and being reused again, so it's over done--#5 the first thing I thought looks like the bird is ahhhh, taking a crap on the presidents, so I didn't like that-- :D

Don't even bother voting. I like them all except number five so that's certain to be the one they use.

It is remarkable though since there often are none I like and never more than one or two.

Hmmm, I dunno.... I'm not all that crazy about any of them. The pheasant is OK, and so is the buffalo, but that's already being done on the Kansas quarter and the nickel this year. I'm sure that what actually appears on the coin will be nothing like the pictures shown!

I voted for Design No. 1,as Mt. Rushmore is a very distinctive symbol of not only South Dakota, but the whole U.S.A. as well.Besides, the sculpture of 4 Presidents of America represents an expression of what America is & could be.

    #1.

I don't like the designs that try and incorporate multiple design elements into one image.

Got to go with Jody on this one. It's the Phesant for sure that represents the state the best. Besides there are a heck of a lot more Pheasants then there are Buffalo in SD. :D

I'd rather see Crazy Horse on it. But I voted for the Pheasant. It doesn't look too bad. I understand Walmart likes to give out new issue state quarters in change to their customers. They should be proud of that one.

I liked #4. I've always liked the buffalo but since it is on other coins by it self I liked the look of it with Mt. Rushmore.

Here's an unpopular vote - I like Design no. 5. I like the representation of the pheasant soaring over Mt. Rushmore. Sorry, everybody. :(

NO need to be sorry Susanlynn9. None of us ever want you to apologize for having an opinion! Thats what is so great about this country. You don't have to worry about goons coming to your door for voicing an opinion. All the designs are acceptable but only ONE will be struck so about 4/5ths of us will be a little upset for not getting our pick AGAIN!!! At least we get to pick?

Obviously I wasn't that sorry, since I voted for it and posted my opinion here. I've spent most of my life flying the face of popular opinion and I don't expect that to change very soon ;)
