Yesterday, today, tomorrow, and if you don't mind long walks between occupied tables, Sunday. I'm taking Greyhound outta here late this afternoon, having a seafood dinner at Phillips at the Power Station at 8, then hitting the hay for the night at a nearby hotel and the show tomorrow. I haz a raft o' stuff to drop off at NGC and then to Allen Berman's table. He's holding some stuff for me to look at. Then, the lot viewing room to look at some S/B auction pieces, and browse a bit before taking Greyhound back to H-burg. (Round trip on G-hound costs LESS than parking my car at Inner Harbor.)
I will be there tomorrow morning with my son. Was planning on going today while he was at school and then on a cub scout camping trip this weekend BUT that was cancelled due to the garbage weather this weekend. As a consolation, I will be bringing him up with me tomorrow morning
Tell me about it. Weather! I'm wearing my Sperry Top-Sider rain jacket to Baltimore. Keep an eye peeled for a guy with a longish white beard, wearing a bluish gray sport coat over a screaming red ANA golf shirt. My badge will be "Kurt". Say howdy. I think it's very cool that Whitman has another supplies vendor on the bourse. I need a few things. Nothing wrong with what Whitman has, it just doesn't cover everything I use.
Unfortunately I can't make it. Yes, local forecasts are for rain the next 5 days starting later this afternoon. That's all I need, more water. Have a great time at the show Kurt and a safe trip back home!
I wish I didnt live in the freaking Midwest where everything (numismatically) exciting is on the east coast
Unless one is in California or near Portland (OR) or Seattle, the west coast is a fairly dry numismatic land as well.
Make plans for Rosemont/Chicago ANA in August 2019 - granddaddy of them all. These things ARE kind of cyclical. It's the east coast's turn.
Best part about Las Vegas is, if you have the time to go, airfares and hotels can be very reasonable, if you shop the discount travel sites.
Baltimore was nice. I spent $75 on a big honkin' seafood dinner at Phillips Friday night. It rained full time the entire time I was in Baltimore, the heaviest as I slept through half of that 18 inning World Series game on TV. I got Amtrak bonus points out the wazoo for booking the Hampton Inn through Rocketmiles. That added enough points that my Harrisburg-Chicago Amtrak trip for the August ANA show is now a freebie in a Roomette. Up to four hours to kill in Pittsburgh for that. I know a great sports bar to catch a Pirates game. I'll pay cash for Amtrak Harrisburg to Pittsburgh in March, and NYC in January. More points. Got to the show early enough to catch up with old friends before the show opened. Got my goodies dropped off at NGC first, then hopped over to Allen Berman for the British stuff he had for me. I bought every piece he had set aside and a few more. We'll do dinner in NYC in January after his King of Bermania schtick the Saturday of that show. I picked up a few supplies, did a walk and look at MOST tables. Signed up with Don Kagin's catalog subscription (he's doing the Pittsburgh ANA show sale), and asked him if he had his nomination papers yet for ANA Prez (he didn't). Colonel Ellsworth (Butternut) was collecting signatures. The rumor mill is that a 3rd candidate may emerge. I like Ellsworth as a person, but he seems bent on eliminating exhibiting at ANA shows. He's at least a critic of it. I like the exhibits; it's how I learn about things outside my wheelhouse. After I snagged a P and D set of BU rolls of 2018 nickel and dimes, I stumbled across a dealer who had some nicer British stuff in his case and I picked up a nice 1937 crown in BU. After that, I checked my watch and saw it was 12:50PM, 10 minutes to the EAC club meeting. I'm not a member, but I signed in with them. The Early American Coppers folks are good people. I'm going to join if they'll have me. They are NOT slab fans, not even a little bit. They have their own standards. Contrarians with standards. Sounds like my kind of folks. I learned more sitting and listening that one hour than any other hour I can remember. They clean their stuff with brushes, use cotton liners, and everthang. They sheepishly apologize when they admit they also collect silver coins. Back to the bus station, back to Harrisburg.
Didn't see you on Saturday. We saw a guy with a longish grey beard but the name tag didn't say "Kurt".
Too bad you missed him.........he's a great fellow. Next time, walk up to the ANA booth and ask the person at station where the devil Mr. Bellman is..........that's what I did at ANA (FLA) a few years ago.........dropped a bomb on the old boy.
The ANA didn't have a table at this Baltimore show, but they will be in evidence in February to sell space at Pittsburgh, four weeks later. I don't remember his handle on here, but it has something to do with 1793, I met a very cool CoinTalk member at the EAC meeting.
@1793 large cent , is it you I met at the EAC meeting in Baltimore? I'm pretty sure he's the right guy.
Ah hell.....then it WAS you. I figured the "V" stood for Vincent...but I didn't wanna be "that" guy and just walk up to a random person and ask "Are you THE V. Kurt Bellman?". And now I realize that I seem more stalkerish than anything haha.
