Unfortunately, I lost this nickel shortly after finding it.

I only saw one side of the coin. It was what appeared to be two cris-crossing rifles, and the date read (to my knowledge- my vision is mediocre at best) "1802".

Anybody have any ballpark of what it would be worth if I still had it? (If it existed at all, maybe I was just hallucinating, I don't know.)

Sounds like some kind of token!

There were no "nickels" minted in 1802. The first nickel 5-cent US coin was minted in 1866. It had a shield on the obverse and a large 5 with rays and stars on the reverse.

Are you sure your coin wasn't dated 1862? It could have been one of many Civil War era tokens.

Or if a shield nickel, 1882.
    Most likely.

this may be crazy but are you sure it was crossed rifles? You don't mentioned how long ago you found this or what condition it was in. The Lewis and Clark Louisiana Purchace coin had crossed tomahawk and peace pipe on the reverse with the date "1803" between them. Beneath them was a pair of hands shaking.

Like I said I may be crazy but I don't know of anything else that even comes close to what you are describing.
