I'm finding some conflicting information on this. I see some low mintage numbers, but is this book really worth anything more than $25-30? Also, with Peace Dollars, I'm seeing completed collections are valuable...But, what about for an almost complete (23 pieces; missing 1928 plain)?
Couple of things.... First off, your cent book is harshly tarnishing your cents. Looks like you have some nice quality coins in there. But you can see the black around several of the cents. I fear the reverse of all your cents may be black. The Whitman books are known for that. And yes that part of the series are all pretty common. Your value assessment is pretty much on target. But check those reverses. The Peace dollar set. Happens that I purchased a complete Peace Dollar set last month. I gave $650.00 for the set but it was complete with the 1928. And that is the most desirable date of the series and probably is about a third of the value of that set.
Wow, I had no idea. I remember getting these books and filling them up with my Pop when I was younger. Crazy to hear, all these years later, they've been causing this. Thank you for your insight and information. That is along the lines with what I've been researching.
Yeah... I been collecting since the 1960's. Wasn't until not long ago that I discovered the Whitman books were damaging my coins. And I lost a few expensive ones too!
The Memorials aren't worth anything. Interesting that there is no space for the 1960 small date Philly. The Peace dollars have value of course. 1921, 1934, etc. But clear photos of both sides of every coin would be necessary to make even a quick judgment.
The Lincoln Memorial Cents are worth a couple of bucks, less if the back of the coins is black. The Oeace Dollars are worth more but you are missing the key date, the 1928. If the coins are in the correct slots you do have the 1921 and the 1934-S and they command a premium. How to give an accurate estimate due to photos.
They really are only face value. There's no market. I guess you could sell the album for a couple dollars, but it's worth less than that. Some appear to still have nice luster, but the other sides may be toast. Including the 2 steelies, I am at .75- $1.00.
Thank you everyone for your insight. I understand the pictures aren't great. Trying to catalog everything at once is tiring
Kewl Peace Dollar set. Take your time cataloging stuff. When in a hurry you'll find you'll have to double and triple recheck things.
I have a complete Peace Dollar set and I'm very happy with it. Not being an expert on grading, some of the rarer dates may be sliders, but all have good eye appeal. It is one of the few sets an average collector can afford to complete.
