I posted some better images just now and have tried to post them on that other site. I don't know if they went through. I still can't find any of these for sale anywhere so I am still in the dark about offering them for sale as I have no idea what one like this might fetch in sale or trade for ancients. I will let you know if I get a reply from those people at Collectors

I really like your coin and just noticed the notch cut our from the top...test cut or sample taken for assay possibly. Lots of history there but you have to find the collector that wants it.

That's what, or who, I hope to find. Thanks for that additional bit of information. I had not noticed that.

I was able to contact a person on another site who is deemed to be knowledgeable in the area of chop marks. He seems to be concerned that the marks may not have been done in China and that it will be very difficult to establish that they were. I don't think any of the verifying services would attempt to do that. He suggested that I might want to advertise the coin on a well know sales site with the admonition that the chop marks might not be authentic. I don't think I will do that for several reasons. I would like to thank all the posters who replied to this thread for the information they offered. As I said to the gentleman who was concerned with the authenticity of the chop marks, I will just keep the coin as a curiosity and an example of a type coin as 1807 was its first year of issue for the capped bust half dollar.

I was able to contact ANACS about authenticating the chop marks and they think they can and asked me for photos which I just sent this morning. I will tell you what they think. If the opinion is favorable I will have it encapsulated and probably sell it. Thanks for following along.
