I received my $7 rebate check from Coors yesterday and decided to trade it into the bank for a roll of cents, nickels, and dimes plus $0.50. The teller was a little stunned by the request but quickly got me my rolls and asked if I wanted a roll of quarters too. Apparently, they were on sale. I was quite surprised by the amount of copper cents (10 or 20%). As I hardly use money anymore, I was able to fill a few recent date holes (2016-2018).

I have personally never asked for anything other than loose or customer wrapped coins. I’ve never had an issue, except them sometimes not having any. Doing all those boxes seems crazy!

Started collecting at 14 in my father’s service station/store. He had to go to the local bank and threaten to close 3 business accounts for me to get rolled coin. Now a retired insurance agent/broker having started and sold two businesses,my collection is a little larger. Someone locally salts the nickel and dime rolls with 3-4 Canadians & from every little island in the Caribbean. Being the canary in the coal mine,I filed a complaint hoping they might want to know they were being defrauded. Don’t search quarters but I assume they are junked up too. My local/regional bank informed me last month that my volume was too high so I’d need a Business account so they could charge me for coin. Mind you I keep about 10k in non-interest checking account. I nicely clean sticky ones, straighten bent ones, take out many Canadian and other foreign junk coins, take cookies to 5 branches, etc. Safe deposit box, credit card, home equity line, wife’s 22k checking balance made no difference. Told their Regional Manager that I thought I should be charging them. A hush fell over the pool hall when I told her that. Said I thought I was a pretty good bank customer and would look at their business acct. on the website. Not gonna happen. Moving my accts one at a time and going to all 8 local branch managers to explain why their boss wants to shoot the messenger. Key Bank is quite happy with my business.BOA branches still ok for me but 40k + in that acct. lol

I appreciate that you filed the complaint, but I don’t think you realize that $40k is a drop in the bucket for them. I see a lot of people who feel self entitled, simply because they put money in a bank. The bank is there to make money. If you’re not making hem money, they’ll drop you or raise rates. It’s really that simple.

Final thought: why do you have money in a non-interest bearing account? That’s kind of like flushing money down the toilet. :(

Just transferred from a large trust to BOA. Glad it wasn’t in stocks last week. Wife wants a new car so cash is king
